Andy Truong, LCSW #76448

My name is Andy Truong, LCSW #76448 and I earned my Masters of Social Work at California State University of Los Angeles in 2013. Prior to graduate school, I earned a Bachelor’s degree of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where I had the opportunity to develop my skills working with children in special education at the Goleta Unified School District. Throughout my years working as an Instructional Aide assisting those with special needs, I realized how childhood experiences and trauma could carry into adulthood. We are heavily influenced by our past experiences leading up to who we become today, which therefore affects our worldview and how we see ourselves. I realized my passion is to enter a helping profession to foster the importance of human dignity, help individuals become “unstuck” through processing, and provide to you with the tools for self-improvement.

Let’s Take Steps Towards Healing

Are you dealing with anxiety? This is one of my specialty areas that I may help you process through. Anxiety is a common emotion that everyone may go through. We all feel anxiety here and there, but sometimes it may lead to affecting our daily functioning, jobs, or relationships. That is when we must summon our courage and inner-strength to get through this hump. I will work with you at your own pace to build self-awareness, process uncertainty, and identify triggers of anxiety. For instance, a child who grew up in a stressful environment and was raised under high levels of pressure may in turn respond to people, employment, and decisions with difficulty. This may be impacted through the many traumatic experiences of childhood and then carried into adulthood. I will stand by your side as we gently take on this healing journey to reconfigure your way of thinking to become the best version of yourself.

Depression is another area of my specialty. Have you been persistently or intermittently feeling depressed, lost interest in activities you’ve once enjoyed, or been impaired in your ability to perform regular activities in your life? You may have experienced times when people tell you to “stop being sad” or to “just get over it.” In reality, everyone goes through their unique story revolving feelings of depression. It may not merely be “sadness” and may manifest differently between each individual. Some of us need more time to process or may need additional help to reach a feeling of equilibrium. Therefore, I am here to be by your side as a therapist, guide, and support system.

We all go through life transitions and may need supportive counseling during these tough times. Life transitions may range from starting a new job, moving to a new place, going through break ups/divorce, and losing a loved one. During these difficult times, depression, anxiety, and our inner traumas may manifest in different ways. You may feel stuck, need additional support, feel impulsive, or may need to process through your current struggles. Regardless, I am here to be present for you so we can get through these tough times together.

Trauma-informed care

Trauma may present itself through a variety of symptoms mentioned above such as depression and anxiety. Our ability to self-regulate mood may be negatively impacted by our childhood experiences, so let me patiently work with you at your own pace to process through your current struggles and be sensitive to your past traumas. Rather than reinforcing a discussion and specific details about your trauma, we will collaboratively build goals to help you overcome maladaptive thinking, worldviews, and behaviors. If your desire is to process your experiences, I understand the importance of empowering you to take charge of your experiences and process at a comfortable pace since this is your story.

Treatment Approach

My specialty is in client-centered practices, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused approaches. I work with individuals, families, and veterans on issues with anxiety, depression, and life transitions. All my therapeutic approaches take a humanistic approach and are strengths-based practices. We are all human beings and no one person is superior to another. We all go through bumps in the road and we are indeed social beings. Therefore, my practice style is processed-based and I believe in taking the strength within you to develop new tools to modify and evolve your thinking, behavior, and experience.

As a trained Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am here to instill hope, dignity, and inner strengths in you. We as humans all go through difficulties, so let me be your support as we embark in this positive journey together. Please feel free to reach out for a consultation.

I provide individual therapy sessions for 50 minutes/$160. I look forward to connecting with you.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for a free 20 minute consultation.
