Elizabeth Huck, ASW #120384

The toll of trauma, chronic stress, and pain builds over time, things that once seemed manageable turn into a life that's not our own, because we're stuck in survival mode. It's exhausting.  As a therapist, my goal is to collaborate with you to safely navigate your inner landscape and put pieces together so you can uncover your unique talents & abilities, and create a mental health toolkit that will carry you through a lifetime. My goal is not only to provide support during times of distress but to empower you with insights that foster lasting change. By connecting past experiences to present patterns, we can work towards breaking free from limitations, fostering healthier relationships, and cultivating a more authentic and fulfilling life.

My name is Elizabeth Huck, I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker (#ASW120384) under supervision. I earned my Master’s degree from the University of Southern California. My approach is eclectic, which means my priority is collaborating with you to find what works best, I am versed in using ACT, DBT, mindfulness, inner child work, Internal Family Systems, Mentalization Based Therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness Self-Compassion, and Brainspotting with a harm reduction approach. I strive to facilitate each client to learn about themselves, grow and find and reveal their most authentic expression and life.

C-PTSD and Trauma

I utilize Polyvagal theory (the leading theory of our nervous system and stress response) and a trauma informed culturally competent approach to healing. Trauma can rob us of the opportunities to thrive, we feel isolated, disconnected, and easily overwhelmed by stress. Navigating the emotional ups and downs, chronic fear & anxiety, having to avoid more and more triggers, never feeling settled, detached from our lives and relationships, doubting and feeling against ourselves and all those physical symptoms of pain, dissociation, illness and discomfort gets in the way of pursuing our dreams.

My approach is eclectic utilizing the latest research on trauma to address it in the body and reprocess the traumatic memory. We will work together to empower you in your life, goals, and relationships and reclaim your life from trauma.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be debilitating; the constant worry and overthinking get in the way of simple enjoyment and making the most out of our experiences. We might struggle to find rest and respite from racing thoughts, fatigue, interrupted focus, and sleep, we are constantly moving from restlessness to fatigue. It might feel as though our anxiety is in control of us. In working through anxiety, together we will learn to implement practices and process our concerns to regain our confidence and feel in control of our own lives.

Depression

When we can no longer enjoy the things, we used to, it can feel hopeless. The constant exhaustion, the inability to feel things as we once used to, the fog that impacts our concentration & interactions with suicidal ideation that just won’t go away can make depression feel insurmountable, but our work together will help you to begin to loosen the grip of depression and feel yourself again.

Couples/Family Therapy

Often times at the root of conflict is a disconnection from each other. Life can get really stressful and busy, and we all bring our own past experiences and lens of the world to our relationships which inevitably cause discord. In working with couples and families, we will slow down together and begin to learn where the root of that disconnection begins and start implementing skills that help us bridge the gap, and in doing so, create closer and more fulfilling relationships.

A Few of my Approaches

I am trained in somatic therapies, which have been researched and found to be integral to healing by helping you address the trauma, chronic stress, and anxiety where it resides, in your body.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a gentle yet highly effective approach that taps into the body's wisdom to heal trauma's pervasive impact on our bodies, lives, and relationships. Sensorimotor addresses the trauma directly where it is stored and moves it through and also helps us heal trauma’s impact on our relationships.

Brainspotting

I offer Brainspotting which uses similar mechanisms to EMDR and is highly effective in treating trauma. Brainspotting utilizes the eyes and bilateral stimulation to reprocess traumatic memory buried deep in the brain, this is ideal for clients who find that EMDR might feel too structured for them.

Internal Family Systems and Inner Child Work

I utilize this method in order to build an understanding of our inner landscape. We all have parts of ourself that can work together or separately to achieve or hinder our goals. When we learn how to understand our inner world, we can have system that helps us to call upon our unique strengths and perspectives as needed. Trauma symptoms are often upheld by dissociation of our parts of self, fragmented from the traumatic experience, when we learn to compassionately and non-judgementally accept the different parts of ourselves we begin to heal.

Mentalization and other Attachment Focused

Often times trauma and stress can impair our ability to communicate, understand others, and navigate relationships. Together we can focus on addressing and healing our relational wounds and building fulfilling and close relationships and community.

Your safety is my Priority

My approach in working with complex PTSD/all trauma survivors is prioritizing relational safety and transparency. As someone who has gone through trauma healing, I understand how important compassion, attunement, safety, and an extensive understanding of trauma are for an effective therapeutic environment. My specialties include working with relationships/attachments impacted by trauma history, sexual abuse, religious trauma, dissociation, trauma-related psychosis, and the confusing physical symptoms of chronic nervous system dysregulation related to trauma.

I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation to discuss your unique needs and explore how we can work together to achieve your therapeutic goals. This initial meeting is an opportunity for us to connect, and for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process.
