Heidi Xue, AMFT #136644

I’m a bilingual (English/Mandarin) speaking therapist in California. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. I am a Registered Associate Marriage Family Therapist (AMFT #136644) and a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #12958).

Do you have trouble falling asleep at night because you are worried about things that are out of your control? Do you feel like life constantly throws curveballs at you, and you don’t seem to be able to keep up with them? Are there things that trigger you and you are unable to control your responses the way you would like to? Or perhaps you are noticing your normal coping tools are not bringing you relief?

You are here because you seek change. I specialize in counseling with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. Sometimes we might get stuck in old habits/patterns that do not serve us anymore. Through therapy, you will gain control of your responses to everyday life hurdles and gain a deeper understanding of yourself, connect with your values, and heal.

Hi, I’m Heidi Xue. Through therapy, I can support you in:

  • Relating to yourself and others with more patience and compassion

  • Building up more confidence in your ability to cope with life’s ups and downs

  • Changing negative, fearful, or destructive patterns that are getting in your way

  • Building greater intimacy, authenticity, and joy in your relationships

  • Learning how to “be your own therapist”

  • Engaging in life with energy, hope, clarity, and purpose

Approach to therapy:

My approach is to make sure every person I talk to can be themselves without the feeling of being judged. I believe everyone is unique in their own way, and I make every effort to create a safe and welcoming space for each person. As someone with a history of trauma and who has lost loved ones, I can understand and relate to the many struggles you may encounter daily. I also understand that no one’s experience is the same, so I tailor my therapy to meet your individual needs. I will be a listening ear for you and will show you that life without pain and constant struggle is possible.

I provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed talk therapy for the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma. I offer a compassionate, genuine, and trusting space while collaborating with you, utilizing your strengths to support you to sort out your challenges and achieve your goals. I use a variety of modalities such as Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I will support you in filling up your toolbox with strategies and skills to process past traumas, decrease negative self-talk and behaviors, learn emotional regulation, and gain insights to move toward the life you want to achieve. I have seen people from all different walks of life and one thing they all agree on is that they feel heard and understood by me. I have helped people overcome grief and learn to enjoy life again despite their trauma or loss.

Areas of expertise:

Client-Centered Therapy (Person-Centered Therapy): is an approach that focuses on the client’s needs. Therapists strive to create a therapeutic environment that is comfortable, non-judgmental, and empathetic. The goals of this practice include increasing self-awareness, improving the client’s ability to use self-direction to make desired changes, increasing clarity, improving self-esteem, and boosting the client’s self-reliance.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): is an evidence-based method that focuses on treating a person’s problems and boosting their happiness through better managing dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thought patterns. CBT places an emphasis on helping clients learn to be their own therapist while focusing on what is going on in present life rather than the past. Clients and therapists may do exercises during sessions as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions to develop more effective ways of coping with life.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy: focuses on learning how to be more aware of thoughts, feelings, emotions, surroundings, situations, and actions that hinder a person’s progress. Instead of having an unhelpful automatic reaction to situations, clients will become more aware of all aspects of themselves, learn to tweak their internal dialogue, and choose how to respond.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):

  • EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

  • FT (Flash Technique) is a minimally intrusive option that allows you to process traumatic memories without feeling distressed. This is a great option for you if you tend to feel emotionally dysregulated whenever you try to process a traumatic memory.

  • R-TEP (Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol) is a comprehensive approach to treating recent events in the belief that serious trauma symptoms may be prevented by receiving early intervention.

I provide individual therapy sessions for 50 minutes/$130 per session and couples/family therapy sessions for 50 minutes/$150 per session.
