Janelle de Veyra, LMFT #141973

Hi! I am Janelle de Veyra, I am a Filipina-American passionate about supporting young working and non-working adults, adults going through life transitions, and femme-identifying people. I care deeply about providing a warm and safe place to help clients explore their mind and body connection and accept their emotional experiences.

I earned my undergraduate degree and graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mount Saint Mary's University. I am a member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists). I am registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT #141973.

My work has been to provide individual therapy for people within the Los Angeles County Area, unceded Tongva Land. I have experience working with adolescents, individuals, and couples. I have predominantly assisted those who have depression, anxiety, PTSD, self-esteem issues, and codependency.

Values and Approach

My approach to therapy comes from the framework of Carl Jung. Jung’s school of thought with the process of individuation as a kind of mythology that we're walking through and at any moment we can step back and see where we are in the story. We learn to pay attention to details instead of categorizing or compartmentalizing and use symbolic language to attune to many layers of self. We will build active relationships with each concept- one that evolves and grows with you over time.

This type of therapy is not a quick fix. The ultimate success is if the process is reinforced, years later, has the healing structure you created held up? My goal is to help people find "home" and be used as a guidepost along the way. Jungian/Depth Psychology brings the mind, spirit, and body together. You will learn the nature of the inner self- inner child, higher self, and other archetypes, as well as the much bigger outside self that Jung called the collective unconscious. My style of therapy tends to be a good fit for those who possess the innate hunger to know more about the self through a spiritual quest. They will gain the ability to find support around what needs to thrive and what needs to be released.

I will assist in processing how to live in the gray area or in other words, build emotional discomfort tolerance. Gaining some comfort in the complexity of a human being that is not all good or all bad. Taking the bad with the good, hold space for both with an open heart, and gain balance, clarity, and centeredness in the self. We will find the source wound- mentally process it, actively shift it through our bodies in the present, bringing together a wholeness in healing- mind, spirit, and body together. As an intuitive & holistic therapist, I wish to add a spiritual dimension to my work. I am certified in Dream Tending through Pacifica University. Through dream tending we will access the potential of your dreams to engage your innate genius, bring awareness to feelings/emotions through narratives, and build relationships and connections to the world around you through a new and dynamic perspective.

Anxiety and Depression

I believe triggers are the body's way of alerting us to change. More often than not, trauma becomes a catalyst for change. On one end this is wanted and needed, but on the other end, this is terrifying and deeply uncomfortable. Anything to avoid shame or guilt! Avoidance of "icky feelings" causes us to create unhealthy coping strategies which then develop into repeated life patterns, leaving you feeling stuck in the same cycle by attracting the same themes. Depression and anxiety symptoms run rampant in this state.

As your therapist, I will listen to your story deeply, with compassion, while also using evidence-based techniques of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to support self-understanding and accept your difficult feelings. Emotional regulation skills can actively improve handling conflicts and identifying needs.

Trauma

Trauma is stored in the body and we physically feel when something isn't sitting well. We often struggle to separate ourselves from the "bad" or know how to self-soothe. Oftentimes people feel the need to control or fix the situation (environment and people) and turn it into "good". If we can't change the bad, then essentially, we are the "bad". My goal is to assist clients in understanding boundaries, become aware of black-and-white thinking, understand and separate the self in a way that helps empaths or highly sensitive people strengthen their sense of self and have the ability to not take on the emotions, responsibilities or issues of others to make themselves feel safe in the room.

I am trained in Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. TF-CBT approach integrates trauma-sensitive interventions to process and move through unsolved emotions through empowerment and recognizing strengths in any situation.

Spirituality and Dream Work

I believe that healing happens when we pay attention to all the parts that make us whole—our mind, body, and soul—and that our emotions can guide us through this healing journey. The subconscious mind controls most of our reality and choices, so building awareness and active presence can improve the quality of daily living and assist in not only surviving but thriving through life.

My approach is through Dream-Tending which consists of bringing the dream into the present moment, building relationships with dream archetypes that evolve with your own personal growth, and allowing the dreamer to discover meaning for themselves. I believe that our lack of emotional awareness and avoiding uncomfortable emotions can cause harm to our psyche and affect the way we see ourselves in our story.

I have extensive experience in dream work or dream tending. I am also experienced in attachment theory and mindfulness techniques. I treat depression, anxiety, trauma, intimacy concerns, grief/abandonment, identity issues, life functioning, and transitions. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults with diverse backgrounds and identities. As a Jungian therapist, I believe in the value of understanding the cultural, social, and spiritual contexts within which clients exist, and how those identities inform their unique set of strengths and challenges.

I provide individual therapy sessions for 50 minutes/$150 per session and couples therapy sessions for 50 minutes/$170 per session.
