I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker licensed in California and Washington State, specializing in trauma and crisis intervention. I utilize mindfulness-based approaches and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Social Welfare and Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Washington. Over ten years, I have gained extensive experience working in diverse clinical settings, including community mental health, crisis intervention programs, and government agencies. Mindfulness is a fundamental aspect of my therapeutic approach. By incorporating mindfulness techniques and practices, my goal is to assist individuals in developing greater self-awareness, grounding techniques, and skills for emotional regulation. Mindfulness-based interventions have been proven effective in reducing trauma symptoms, fostering resilience, and improving overall mental health and quality of life. I customize interventions to meet each individual's unique needs, working together to cultivate a sense of peace and well-being.

Do you find yourself trapped in negative thoughts? Do you have a constant fear that something terrible is about to happen? 

I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help clients identify and modify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs related to their traumatic experiences. By challenging negative cognitive patterns and replacing them with more adaptive thoughts, individuals can experience positive changes in their emotional well-being and overall functioning. CBT is an effective approach for treating a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and substance abuse. It equips individuals with practical tools and strategies that can be applied in their daily lives to manage stress, improve mood, and enhance overall well-being.

Have you noticed that you tend to avoid doing things that might bring back memories from the past? 

I use EMDR to help individual processes and alleviate the impact of past traumatic memories on their daily life. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is recognized for its effectiveness in helping individuals with traumatic memories. It's worth noting that a good night's sleep makes you feel better due to REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. EMDR utilizes rapid eye movements or similar bilateral movements to assist you in processing your memories in a way similar to how REM sleep functions.

Have you ever experienced negative feelings about your emotions?

Emotions play a crucial role in signaling potential dangers and the need for self-care. I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to assist you in enhancing your awareness of your thoughts and emotions through mindfulness practices. ACT helps to increase your psychological resilience and tolerance, enabling you to better recognize and embrace your emotions, be true to yourself, and cultivate self-love.

Families across multiple generations of immigrants often face unique challenges and dynamics. 

Immigrant families struggle to balance their original cultural identity with the need to assimilate and adapt to the culture of the host country. Conflicts and tensions can arise when younger family members have different beliefs and practices from their parents or older relatives. Limited language proficiency further adds to the challenges of effectively expressing emotions, thoughts, and expectations, which can strain relationships within families. Being a first-generation immigrant myself, and a parent of a second-generation immigrant child, I deeply understand the importance of cultural sensitivity and intersectionality. I value recognizing the impact of cultural, social, and systemic factors on our lives. In my work, I am dedicated to providing culturally responsive care and offering linguistic matching therapy, including services in Korean, to honor and respect my clients' unique identities and backgrounds.

My focus is on supporting individuals with depression, anxiety, PTSD, interpersonal issues, family conflicts, and cultural issues. Through interventions such as mindfulness and CBT and implementing person-centered, trauma-informed, and system theory, I will support your personal growth and empowerment, allowing you to reclaim your lives, heal from past wounds, and cultivate resilience as you move towards a brighter and more fulfilling daily life.

I provide individual therapy sessions for 50 minutes at $140 per session and family therapy sessions for 50 minutes at $160 per session.
