Melanie Maddox, ASW #116137

Guided by the inspiring words of Nelson Mandela,

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.' Together, let us embark on a transformative journey where we rise above challenges, harness our inner resources, and work towards a more empowered and fulfilling life."

I have embarked on a diverse and enriching educational journey, obtaining degrees in both clinical psychology and social work. In 2015, I completed a Master's in Clinical Psychology from UNC Greensboro, and in 2023, I earned my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Utah. This unique combination of educational backgrounds has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of human behavior, mental health, and effective therapeutic interventions with a social justice lens.

You Deserve to Heal

As an Associate Clinical Social Worker (License #116137), my approach is rooted in compassion, with a deep respect for the unique needs and experiences of each individual. I believe that everyone has a story that deserves to be heard and validated. To address a wide spectrum of mental health concerns, I draw from a range of evidence-based therapies, including

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Brief solution-focused therapy

Creating a Safe and Supportive Space

Creating a safe and supportive therapeutic space is of utmost importance to me. I strive to build a collaborative relationship with my clients based on trust, empathy, and understanding. Within this nurturing environment, we can explore past traumas, reduce negative thoughts and behaviors, enhance emotional well-being, develop self-esteem, and cultivate healthier and more fulfilling interpersonal relationships.

Couples & Family Therapy

With a strong foundation in the Gottman Couples Method and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and other evidences based practices, I am committed to helping couples and families build healthier connections, foster effective communication, and create a nurturing environment for growth and healing, taking into account each unique couple or family unit.

In my approach to couples therapy, I draw heavily on the renowned Gottman Couples Method. Based on decades of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this evidence-based approach provides practical strategies and tools to enhance relationship satisfaction and strengthen emotional bonds. By integrating Gottman's research findings and therapeutic interventions, I guide couples through a transformative journey towards a more fulfilling and resilient partnership. With the Gottman Couples Method, I focus on fostering trust, deepening understanding, and improving conflict resolution skills. Through a combination of assessment tools, communication exercises, and interventions tailored to each couple's unique needs, I empower couples to develop effective communication patterns, rebuild intimacy, and create a sense of shared meaning in their relationship.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT): Recognizing the importance of healthy family dynamics, I also specialize in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). PCIT is an evidence-based treatment model that focuses on enhancing the parent-child relationship while reducing behavior problems in children aged 2-7 years old. By providing parents with specific skills and strategies, PCIT helps them create a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters their child's emotional well-being and social development.

Mental Health Coaching Experience

With my experience as a mental health coach, I bring a unique perspective and skill set to the therapeutic process. I am comfortable and well-versed in providing a brief solution-focused approach tailored to your specific needs and goals. Together, we will work towards efficient and effective solutions that align with your desired outcomes.

Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity

Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity are core principles in my therapeutic approach. I honor and respect the diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences of my clients. I believe in meeting clients where they are and actively engaging in ongoing education and self-reflection to ensure that I am continuously learning and growing in my ability to provide effective and culturally sensitive care.

Client-Centered Collaboration

I firmly believe that you are the expert on your own experiences. You possess unique strengths and insights that can guide the therapeutic process. I see myself as your partner and collaborator, walking alongside you as we navigate challenges, celebrate victories, and cultivate the skills and resilience necessary for your growth and well-being.

Continuing Education and Growth

Continuing education and staying abreast of the latest research and therapeutic advancements are paramount in my professional practice. I actively seek opportunities for learning and growth, attending trainings, workshops, and conferences to expand my knowledge and integrate new approaches into my work. By staying informed, I ensure that I provide you with the highest quality of care and offer the most effective strategies to support your healing journey.

Together, let us collaborate to discover a path that empowers you to overcome obstacles, cultivate inner peace, and embrace a life of authenticity and well-being.
